MALVERN Cricket Club last year celebrated their 50th anniversary and now they are looking for new players of all ages.

Boys, girls, men, women, beginners and experienced cricketers are all welcome to join.

The club, based at Regency Road in Malvern Link, are seeking to expand their youth section and bolster adult teams ahead of the 2016 season.

Anyone aged six or over interested in trying out the sport is encouraged to attend a taster session at Dyson Perrins Sports Hall, Malvern, on February 7.

The under-12s junior sessions will be between 1pm and 2pm and the adult sessions following on 2pm from 3pm.

Youth team coach Anthony Arnold is enthusiastic about growing the junior section.

He said: “The junior players are very important to the health of any sports club.

“They develop their skills, make new friends, have a lot of fun and hopefully one day go on to play in the adult teams.

“However, the emphasis is on playing cricket in the right spirit and having a great time.”

Malvern are also keen to encourage girls to join the juniors and women to join the adult teams.

Arnold continued: “Last season we had several girls regularly come to the junior training and they all played in organised friendlies against other teams.

“The senior teams also had women cricketers play in league matches and this is something we are keen to see develop.”

The club are also realistic about the demands of modern life on players’ leisure time and this season have changed membership pricing policy.

Arnold said: “In past seasons we have had a membership fee that possibly discouraged potential players from registering if they knew they could only commit to a few matches each season.

“We have recognised this and reduced the adult playing membership to just £10.

“Hopefully, this will allow more potential players to consider joining Malvern if they can only commit to play a few games in the season — but it will also be great if they have such a good time they play more.”

The club fields first and second XI teams in the Worcestershire League on Saturdays and a social XI on Sundays throughout the cricket season from May to September.

Malvern also have a junior section that fields teams in a number of age groups playing friendly games against other local clubs and school teams.

Following the taster session, the pre-season nets start on Sunday, February 21, at Malvern College sports hall from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
