WORCESTER Nomads A and B are competing for the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division One title.

The A team are assured of a place at the county finals on April 17 with a top-two spot and play their B side on Sunday to decide the city championship.

Unbeaten Nomads A (104-3) beat Avoncroft (71 all out) by 33 runs.

If the Avoncroft batsmen had performed better and with more luck, it would have been a closer encounter.

Restricting Nomads to a below-par score was only half a job.

Sam Roberts (27 not out), Pat O’Driscoll (20) and Rich Henry (25no) were the main contributors. Bowlers Mark Whitehead and Adam Rodway returned 1-21 and 1-22 respectively.

Nomads opening with Rich Henry then spinner Dom Badger worked a treat, with Whitehead returning a simple catch to the slow bowler.

Desperation led to a risky single and a pulled hamstring for Tom Murray in the same over as Paul Athey was run-out for 23.

Relegated Hallow (127-1) lost to Cutnall Green (128-5) with four balls left.

Hallow’s top order batted well, with Dave Pugh, Jeremy Hodson and Connor Murphy all retiring.

But their bowlers were under pressure as Matt Harris and Scott Shuck sprinted to 60 from four overs. Green’s lower order lost four wickets for 10 runs but, although Harris (36) spooned a catch to Murphy, Shuck (41no) continued to victory.

In Division Two, Nomads C (100 all out) took the title after defeating previously-unbeaten Martley (94 all out) by six runs with three balls left.

Dan Johnson removed Josh Hawes and Malcolm Jones (12) before a partnership of 67 between Roger Dixon (27) and Cameron Blakey (26) rescued Nomads.

Johnson took two more wickets in the 11th over, added to a run-out, for league-best figures of 4-21 this season.

But Martley staggered to 37-5, with Pat Bibby taking five overs to reach 25 and then returning to be bowled by Anders Wilson (1-14).

Simon van Tongeren added 17, James Ganderton 13 and Joe Adams 15 as Hawes (2-24) and Blakey got two wickets each.

West Malvern (135-5) beat WCB Seniors (89-5) by 46 runs in the other fixture.

With Kevin Gilbert back, West still managed to lose five wickets.

Gilbert was bowled by Rob Pittaway off the final ball for 53 after Joe Bird scored 20, Rowan Dakin 19no and Ben Turner 15.

The seniors started well through Peter Gurr (22) and Robin Lloyd (18), while Dick Brown stuck around for eight overs for 18no.
