EVESHAM’S John Barrett received the Bill Jones memorial volunteer of the year award as Worcestershire Cricket presented their annual accolades.

Barrett was also rewarded for his efforts with a lifetime achiever gong in the NatWest OSCAs for 2016 staged at New Road.

Evesham secretary Nick Rowlands said: “John has been associated with the club for many years, as a player, coach-manager and now chairman since 2006.

“Not only does he coach the junior players, he also officiates at their games.

“He also manages the ground, spending hours during the season and the close-season cutting the outfield.

“Not content with that, every Saturday he manages the first team and is their official scorer.

“In short, John is the heart and soul of Evesham CC.”

Tom Hill, Worcestershire cricket development director, said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our game.

“Without their contribution, cricket would simply not be played.

“They make the game what it is and their collective efforts provide thousands of people across Worcestershire with opportunities to experience and benefit from our beautiful game.”

All of the winners will get to represent the county at Lord’s later this year.
