A DISMAL batting display saw Colwall’s three-match winning run brought to an abrupt halt by lowly hosts Pedmore in Worcestershire League Division One.

Chasing a reasonable total of 225-7, Colwall were only held together by a defiant innings of 82 from Nick Brown.

They were skittled out for 149 in reply, with no other Colwall batsman reaching double figures in a disappointing rout as Pedmore won by 76 runs.

Pedmore chose to bat first, but they also struggled for long periods with Mike Gooch taking two early wickets and Dan Newby sending down five maidens in his first six overs.

Opener Wayne Holt shared productive stands with Dan Cooper (31) and Dan Jones (29) before Ben Febery came on to have Cooper caught, securing his first senior wicket.

Ancil Nedd then trapped Jones leg-before, bowled Ryan Beaumont and Holt caught for 67 to leave Pedmore in trouble on 150-7.

But that was to be Colwall’s last success as Matt Porter (35) and James Burgoyne (36) formed a crucial unbroken stand of 75.

Brown and Joe Blight put on 28 for Colwall’s first wicket. After Blight fell lbw to Burgoyne, Ben Cooke, James Abel, Nick Panniers and Ben Wheeler were all dismissed.

Although the tail tried hard to stay with Brown, he was ninth out for 82. Two balls later Calum White removed Newby to get Colwall all out for 149.

The seconds amassed 449-5 to eclipse Pedmore by no less than 394 runs in their Second X1 Division One clash at Stow Lane.

Ben Butler smashed 178 and Archie Sale 128, while Jake Hill hammered 60 and Will Bishop (29) and Idris Mohammed (25) also scored freely as Colwall ran riot against a youthful Pedmore outfit.

In reply, Pedmore failed to cope with the pace of Stu Martin (8-10) and Damien Berry (2-7) as they were bowled out for 55.

The thirds edged to a nail-biting seven-run victory in their low-scoring Marches League Division Two tie at Knighton on Teme.

Colwall were all out for 92, but a five-wicket haul by 14-year-old Alex Whittaker, including a burst of three wickets in four balls saw the home side skittled for 85.

The fourths went down by five wickets, hosting Strollers at Ghost Meadow.
