PHIL Chaundy scored his second century of the season as West Malvern defeated bottom side Worcester thirds by 75 runs in Worcestershire League Division Four.

The opening batsman racked up 137 to steer the leaders to 281-6 before shooting their opponents out for 206 with Matthew Gammon taking 3-51.

West were put in to bat and lost two early wickets with Will Jones (4) and Matt Penkoks (2) bowled by Thomas Pinfield.

It was only when Pinfield completed his testing spell that runs from the Range end flowed more readily.

Chaundy managed to hoist Dormston Cook over long-off for a maximum and passed 50 once again but was generally held in check by the veteran slow bowler.

After drinks Cook struck twice in an over having Will Lloyd caught at point for 28 and Kuperan Yoganathan lbw attempting to sweep his first ball.

The score that had been limping along suddenly leapt forward as Chaundy and Robin Lloyd started to find the boundary with regularity and cleared the ropes on several occasions.

Chaundy secured his hundred before being caught in the covers by Pinfield. His partnership with Lloyd was worth 132 and came off 18 overs.

Kevin Gilbert (22*), was sent in to maximise the remaining overs and with Lloyd in full flow a further 50 runs were plundered before Lloyd was bowled by Ali for 64 from the penultimate delivery.

The target of 282 was soon looking out of the reach of the home side as Matt Hindmarsh accounted for Ibrar, caught behind by Gilbert for eight and soon after bowled Chris Fletcher for a duck.

Dave Robinson (32) was proving to be a thorn in the side for West before a straight full delivery from Rowan Dakin rattled into his stumps.

Hindmarsh was unplayable at times and Sam Beaumont continued to trouble the batsman, but Pinfield was starting to grow in confidence.

His explosive innings of 45, including several large sixes was brought to an end when he looked to blast Penkoks over the ropes but found the reliable hands of Dakin.

Gammon then snaffled James Finch (16) at slip off Penkoks (2-35), but Ali and Cook mounted a determined comeback.

Ali scored 32 before holing out to Gammon off Jones and the match was all but won when Gammon returned to bowl Cook for 16 and trap Giles leg before for three.

Ateeb Bashir and Ian Wilks pushed the score into the 200s until Bashir was brilliantly caught one-handed by Penkoks off Gammon. Dakin (2-39) then bowled Ian Wilks (11) to wrap up the win.
