A SUPERB bowling display saw Barnards Green skittle Halesowen for 70 in a comfortable quarter-final victory in the Canterbury Cup.

Halesowen won the toss and chose to bat, but four wickets in the first four overs may well have made them regret their decision.

Ryan Tongue got three of the wickets as he removed Wesley Griffiths, Jack Roberson and Thomas Williams while Phil Harris had Hassan Qaumi caught by Josh Dickenson. Halesowen were 15-4 with Jamie Harris and Masharraf Shazad at the crease.

The pair took the score to 33 when Tongue grabbed his fourth wicket, bowling Shazad for 16.

Opener Harris could only watch as Andy Ford removed Hassan Akram and Dylan Ross-Watt who was caught by Kingsland.

Ben Sutton bowled Joseph Tromans before Dickenson finished the innings as he had Harris caught behind by Ash Brewer for 23 and then Eddie Rhodes (1) skied one to Phil Harris.

After a short rain delay, Tongue and Ford looked set to steer their side to victory as they scored 23 off the first four overs. They brought up 50 before Shazad had Ford caught by Williams for 27.

Phil Harris hit 19 off just six balls, including a six to win the game in the 10th over, with Tongue unbeaten on 25.

Green visit Himley in the semi-finals.

There was also success for Green in the Evening League Tansell Cup as a young side who featured seven under 19s beat Malvern Artefacts in the semi-finals.

George White (11) and Dannie Rees (20) got them off to a great start, but it was captain Ryan Tongue and Josh White who did most of the damage as they both retired not out on 51.

Tongue hit four fours and four sixes while White cracked five fours and three sixes. Green then finished on 173-2 with Will Dovey (25) and Robert Wilson (4) not out.

A youthful bowling attack then tore into Artefacts who fell 45 runs short. Lewis Regan and Ryan Tandy-Smith took a wicket a piece and George White, Will Dovey and Callum Morris got a brace each, with three catches for Robert Wilson.

Max White hit 34 and Neil Thompson 37 as Artefacts finished 129-9 off their 12 8-ball overs.
