BARNARDS Green secured their first silverware of the season with a hard-fought win over Worcester Warriors in the Tansell Cup.

Warriors batted first and took 23 off the first 2.3 overs before Lewis Regan cleaned bowled Simon Cross (10).

Blair Kingsland could only take seven singles before being run out by some quick-thinking by keeper Dannie Rees. He stumped Tom Vale (19) off the bowling of Callum Morris who then dismissed Warriors director of rugby Gary Gold (3).

Warriors were 65-4 in the eighth of the 13 eight-ball overs. Gus Mackay produced some big hitting, scoring 53 off 21 balls, including four fours and five sixes before retiring.

He was well supported by Tom Tench who had made when Rees got his second stumping. Monks (8) and Charlie Lincoln (3) took Warriors to 139-5.

In reply, Rob Wilson looked good, hitting a four and a six before being bowled by Mackay for 13. Will Dovey fell next with the score on 56 as Vale took the wicket.

Ryan Tongue had to retire when he reached his half century which came off 33 balls and featured a four and four sixes.

Josh White was trapped lbw off Kingsland and Tom Banks hit eight before being removed by Lincoln to leave Green 121-4 and needing 19 off the final 11 balls.

Ash Brewer came in at seven and cracked 16 off just five balls as he fired a huge six over mid-wicket.

This put Green on the brink of victory as they required three off the last over bowled by Kingsland. The win was sealed courtesy of three leg byes as Rees (29) and Brewer (16) finished unbeaten.

Green take on Himley in the semi-final of the Canterbury Cup on Sunday (2pm).
