Five-goal Morse on fire in Welland rout

WELLAND went goal crazy in a 13-1 away thrashing of Tewkesbury Town Reserves in Cheltenham Association League Division Four.

Five-goal Adam Morse inspired the victory on a wet surface as Welland showed attacking intent from the start.

They took an early lead when a mix-up in defence allowed Morse to turn his marker and roll the ball into an empty net.

He was on target again soon after as his effort looped over the keeper and, with the visitors well in control, youngster Tim Lewis grabbed his first for the club when he slid in at the back post to score.

A Ben Pearson volley from 25 yards made it 4-0 before Mark Holbrow and Morse added further first-half goals alongside a Tewkesbury consolation.

The second period began slowly but Tewkesbury’s afternoon soon got worse when a defender turned the ball into his own net before Holbrow, Pearson and Morse all netted further goals for te visitors.

Welland were awarded a penalty only for Morse to be unsuccessful from the spot.

However, he bagged a fifth before Pearson rounded the keeper for his hat-trick and Holbrow also completed a treble with a smart far-post header. Meanwhile, a James Styles double helped Newtown Sports to a 4-2 success at The Red Lion in Worcester and District League Saturday Division One.

Brad Morton and Pat Lane were also on target as Newtown moved four points clear of their bottom-of-the-table opponents from Kidderminster.

Leaders Powick earned a key 2-1 win at title-rivals Arrow 2000 who remain well in the hunt along with Worcester Raiders.

In Division Two, there were hat-tricks for Pete Jeynes in Foregate’s 4-2 success at Leigh and Bransford Badgers and Jay Roberts as West Malvern 2012 crushed Sylla 6-1.

In the Sunday League, waterlogged pitches caused half of the scheduled matches to be postponed.

Malvern Radar and Droitwich Spa Eagles were locked at 2-2 in Division One when their match at Victoria Park was abandoned after 53 minutes due to a waterlogged pich.

In Division Three, Malvern Victoria’s Andy Lancett scored twice in a 3-2 triumph at high-fliers VBL Sports.

Powick Reserves hammered Droitwich Spa Eagles Reserves 8-2 in Division Four as Stuart Harvey and Sean Smith both hit hat-tricks and Dean Humphries a brace.
