Hooper hits form as Town seal points
4:20pm Monday 25th February 2013 in Football
MALVERN Town let out their frustrations after plenty of postponements with a 4-2 home success over Sporting Khalsa.
The visitors had two players sent off in the late stages of the West Midlands League Premier Division encounter.
Malvern dominated early on and took a 17th-minute lead when Oliver Endacott’s cross was pushed out by keeper Liam Stanton to Lee Hooper who dispatched a 35- yard volley.
Dave Reynolds was fouled in the area eight minutes later and picked himself up to convert the penalty.
In the 27th minute, a fine move saw Reynolds release Hooper down the left and he found Robert Cullen who volleyed home.
But Khalsa enjoyed a lucky break a minute before halftime.
Sam Whitchurch’s cross was parried by Ian Hill only for Chris Allen’s clearance to hit the keeper on the back of his head and roll into the net.
Khalsa came out with a spring in their step after the break and Malvern had to reorganise when the ill Endacott was replaced early on.
Scott Sandland’s long-range effort on 57 minutes was heading for the top corner until Hill saved brilliantly.
Malvern hit back as Hooper struck the bar with an overhead effort and Reynolds headed wide before he chipped over.
Khalsa’s Danny Campbell fired a great chance off target but Sam Pearson pulled another goal back 10 minutes from time.
However, any chance of a comeback was ended when Khalsa defender Craig Radford nodded Cullen’s cross into his own net two minutes later.
The visitors’ Danny Forward was shown a second yellow card for dissent and Radford later followed with a red for two bookings.
Tenth-placed Malvern then went down 2-1 at home to Pegasus Juniors in the league in mid-week.
- Bromyard Town recorded an impressive 1-0 win over seventh-placed Dudley Town with Devon Smith scoring
- Ricky Buckland and Lee Barmby netted for Malvern Rangers in a 2-0 West Midlands League Division Two win at Hereford Lads Club.
