Depleted Upton in draw with Bredon

UPTON Town were without five defenders as they drew 3-3 with Bredon Reserves in Cheltenham Association League Division Two.

The fifth-placed hosts, hit by injury and illness, went close when Matt Hindmarsh hit the bar from 20 yards before keeper Chris Darby was forced into a fine save at the other end.

Upton took the lead when Tom Crump finished off Paul Amott’s through-ball and then Hindmarsh played in Mark Watkins who also gave the keeper no chance.

Billy Roebury was forced off with a knee injury to leave just two recognised defenders and Bredon took full advantage despite the heroics of Darby.

A scuffed free-kick bobbled into the net and it was 2-2 on the hour following a good finish by the right winger.

Bredon took the lead for the first time with a free eightyard header but Upton did not lose their heads, showing belief and character.

From a late corner, midfielder Hindmarsh’s header just crossed the line, despite a defender’s best efforts, for his sixth goal of an impressive first season.
