LEDBURY Town are eyeing silverware after securing their West Midlands Football League Division One status.

The 12th-placed New Street side are waiting to find out their Division One Cup quarter-final opponents.

Manager Paul Mann is desperate to make amends for a poor league showing after last weekend’s fine 2-1 win at local rivals Hereford Lads Club fended off the relegation threat.

He declared: “We will target the cup now. There’s a rather nice pot at the end of it and we would like to win something to come out of the season with some reward.

“It’s been a hard season for us in our first season in this division and we have found it tough at times, so a cup win would be nice.”

After seeing second-placed Bartestree enjoy a fine campaign on being promoted with Ledbury, skipper Pete Boyle admitted it was hard to work out why there had been such a gulf this season.

He said: “We have underachieved massively this season. Top five or six wouldn’t have been too unrealistic when you see teams like Bartestree are up there.

“They are a side we can compete well against so we are disappointed.

“But hopefully we can take the positives and use it to push on to where we think we should be for next season.”

One positive for Ledbury is the goal-scoring prowess of Jamie Welch, who admitted: “It’s been a good season for me.

"I’m happy now I’ve reached the 20-goal mark I set myself at the start but the main thing is to do it for the lads out there with me really.”

Mann added: “If you take Jamie's goals away from us – we’ve got a poor goal difference as it is – then we would be in a dire situation.”

Welch equalised against Lads Club on 25 minutes following good work from James Febery after the city side went ahead through Carlos Moriera.

Both sides squandered chances in the second period before Dan Herbert brought down a fine cross from Tom Boyle to fire home the winner 15 minutes from time.

Despite having midfielder Ben Fuller sent off, Lads Club fashioned one late chance with Steve Dixon thwarted by teenage keeper Elliot Watts.

Ledbury have completed the treble over Lads Club and now host Gornal Athletic Reserves a week on Saturday (3pm).

The reserves entertain Ewyas Harold Reserves in Herefordshire League Division One on Saturday (2.30pm).
