FOOTBALLING legends from Hereford United and Worcester City will play a match at Malvern Town FC’s HDanywhere Community Stadium on Sunday (2pm) to raise funds for the two clubs' supporters’ trusts.

Some of the big local names set to play include former Bulls Peter Heritage, Alex Jeannin, Tony James, Steve Guinan, Dave Titterton and Rob Purdie.

John Snape, who figured for City and Hereford, is also set to line up along with current Worcester manager Carl Heeley and his assistant Matt Gardiner with many more set to follow.

The event promises to be a day out for all as there will be a barbecue, bouncy castle and other activities for families at the Langland Avenue ground.

Hereford fans and ex-players have been rallying to support the United trust team in protest at the Edgar Street club's ownership and more than 654 people turned up to see them at Ledbury Town last week.

Town managing director Chris Pinder said: “We are only too pleased to be hosting this exciting event.

"We are happy to help the supporters’ trusts of both Hereford United and Worcester City in whatever way we can.”

Rich Widdowson, of Worcester City Supporters’ Trust, said: “It is great to see the local footballing community coming together in solidarity to back the Hereford United Supporters' Trust and to promote supporter-owned clubs as the future for football at our level."

Chris Oleksy, of Hereford's trust, said: “We’re expecting a high turn-out of Hereford supporters and the support from local footballing legends has been amazing.

"I’d like to thank Worcester City, Worcester City Supporters' Trust and Malvern Town for being so helpful in making this event happen for Hereford fans.”

There is no set ticket price for the game but spectators will be asked instead to make a donation to either supporters’ trust upon entry.

Meanwhile, Hereford United will be allowed to start the new season but a question mark still remains over their future after this week's High Court hearing.

The latest winding-up order was adjourned until September 1 after the court was told the club were exploring proposals for a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

A meeting about the CVA is scheduled for Friday, August 15.

The Bulls will be allowed to play in the Southern League Premier Division with the transfer embargo on the club lifted.

However, Edgar Street still needs a safety licence to host football ahead of the league opener with St Neots Town a week on Saturday.
