THE reserves kept spirits up at Ledbury Town as the first team continued their poor start to the season.

Ledbury’s West Midlands Football League Division One outfit slumped 6-1 at second-placed Wrens Nest with new signing Thomas Hill scoring.

Still rooted to the bottom of the table, Zac Blood and Pete Boyle’s squad look for their first win of the season at home to mid-table Trysull tomorrow (3pm).

But the reserves won 1-0 at their Ross Juniors counterparts in the Herefordshire FA Junior Cup first round.

The visitors dominated in the rain but their attacking play lacked bite at times.

Under the new management duo of Phil Preedy and Roly Welch, Ledbury should have put more past a stubborn defence and keeper.

Former first teamer Martin Loveridge bagged the only goal in the 20th minute.

But Rodney Hathaway and Mitch Preedy were both forced to make early exits after suffering injuries.

Prolific striker Jamie Gladwin came close to scoring again six minutes into the second period when a strong strike bounced off the post.

The woodwork came into play again in the 57th minute when the Ross keeper touched a Loveridge free-kick onto the upright.

Gladwin was again denied by the keeper before Ledbury survived a couple of late chances for the hosts.

Town visit Tupsley in the second round on October 4.

The New Street reserves visit Ewyas Harold Reserves in Herefordshire League Division One tomorrow (2.30pm).

The revamped Herefordshire Sunday League is under way.

Bromyard Colts beat Hop Pole 2-1 in the Northern Division, while Bromyard Downs drew 2-2 with Burghill Rangers.
