MALVERN Town go into a tough test at Black Country Rangers tomorrow (3pm) on the back of two wins in a row.

Les Jones’ side followed up a tight 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Sporting Community with a 5-0 midweek thrashing of Wolverhampton Casuals.

The double HDanywhere Community Stadium success leaves Malvern fifth in the West Midlands League Premier Division table, four points behind leaders Bridgnorth with a game in hand.

Rangers are just one place and one point behind Town having played three less fixtures.

Dave Reynolds scored two goals against Casuals with Matt Turner, Dan Herbert and Kirk Layton also on target.

Malvern went ahead after six minutes when Jake Hollylee threaded the ball though to Layton from the left and the midfielder fired home from 20 yards via the post.

The scorer curled another effort just wide in the 25th minute from Turner’s pass.

One-touch football between Turner and Aaron Richards resulted in Herbert heading home the cross in the 43rd minute to extend Town’s lead.

Two minutes later, Reece King found Reynolds, whose 25-yarder was turned over by Casuals keeper Steve Booth.

Malvern made it three in injury-time when a long free-kick was flicked on by Herbert for Reynolds, who glanced the ball into the net.

A low drive by substitute Phil Harris was cleared off the line by a defender as Malvern continued to dominate.

Town still produced fine football in the second period and Booth pushed over King’s header after more good work from Turner and Richards.

Defender Dene Whittal-Williams saw his shot cleared off the line from the resulting corner.

The hosts went 4-0 up in the 51st minute when the ball was played upfield and Herbert knocked it on to Turner, who ran on and fired home.

In the 75th minute, the ball was moved from substitute Bryan Craven to Reynolds but the striker’s shot grazed the post. Harris shot wide before Reynolds completed the scoring in the last minute by side-footing home Craven’s cross.

Malvern’s win over Community ended a run of three matches without success, which included losses at home to Bewdley Town (3-2) and Sporting Khalsa (3-1).

Their next home league game is not until Saturday, October 11, when Gornal Athletic visit.
