MID-table Malvern Town under 21s lost their derby 3-1 at fourth-placed Powick Rangers in West Midlands League Division Two.

The visitors enjoyed the best of the first 15 minutes with Rangers keeper Dan Hollings saving twice with his feet.

As the half progressed, Powick came back into the match and had most of the attacking play but were kept at bay by impressive keeper Toby Wilcox.

Ricky Buckland, Sean Smith and Stu Williams all went close for the hosts in a goalless first-half.

But the deadlock was broken soon after the restart as Rangers substitute Matthew Beckett crossed and Dave Perara shrugged off his marker to volley in from six yards.

However, five minutes later, the scores were level when a long-range Jack Cullity shot sneaked in at the far corner.

Powick looked for the winner and, with 10 minutes left, Smith’s corner was flicked on by Darren Baker for substitute Stu Harvey to powerfully head home at the far post.

Their third goal came with virtually the last kick of the game.

Buckland played a one-two with Smith, took a touch and hit a screamer from 25 yards.

Powick host Stafford in the league tomorrow (3pm) and Town entertain Droitwich Spa in the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup first round.

Meanwhile, Steve Carpenter and Shane Wilband scored for Newent Town in a 2-2 draw at Barometrics in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One.

Newent host Ruardean Hill Rangers tomorrow (3pm).
