MALVERN Town advanced to a Worcestershire FA Senior Urn semi-final at Alvechurch with a 1-0 win at Studley.

The visitors conquered the swirling wind and rain in the last-eight tie to hold onto a 16th-minute goal.

Malvern's winner arrived when Ben Hayes ran up the right and fired in a shot that keeper Shaun Edwards could only parry for Matt Turner to fire home.

Turner forced Edwards into action in the first minute before Town keeper Chas Weaver saved well from Josh McKenzie.

Edwards parried an effort from Kirk Layton but Dave Reynolds put the rebound wide.

Reynolds directed a free-kick over the bar before Turner scored in a lively opening.

Four minutes later, a Studley corner was cleared off the line and then Weaver held a Matt Bailey header.

On the stroke of half-time, Hayes flew up the left wing but fired just over.

The weather deteriorated in the second period with the ball sticking in the centre circle and skidding off the wings.

Turner nearly added a second goal 12 minutes from time but hit the post.
