MALVERN Town head to Shawbury United on Saturday aiming to build on their winning start to the new year.

The HDanywhere Stadium side triumphed 6-1 at Wellington Amateurs last Saturday to get 2015 off to a flyer.

Lee Hooper and Dave Reynolds both scored twice, while substitutes Jake Hollylee and Matt Turner bagged one apiece.

Victory keeps Malvern sixth in the West Midlands League Premier Division ahead of the match against Shropshire side Shawbury (3pm), who are one place and one point above them.

It is the first of a tricky set of fixtures for Town which will also see them host Black Country Rangers, currently seventh, and visit leaders Gornal Athletic before the end of the month.

Manager Les Jones said: “Shawbury are a high-scoring side so we have got to defend well but I am certain we can get a positive result.”

Defender Jamie Thomas serves the second of a three-game suspension.
