WELLAND Juniors Colts under 12s reached the Mercian Fortis Junior League’s Ron Handy Memorial Shield final.

They beat Westbury Celtic Crusaders 3-2 in the last four after getting off to a bright start on the 4G pitch at Dyson Perrins Academy.

Dylan Jaff headed in from Alex Grey’s corner after five minutes.

Welland quickly grabbed a second from another corner knocked home by centre-half Dan Smith.

Just before half-time, Fred Roberts struck the ball from the left seeking goal and it was deflected past the Westbury keeper by their defender.

The second-half saw a rejuvenated Westbury with two goals from free-kicks in a matter of minutes.

The last 10 minutes were played at blistering pace with Westbury striving for a draw and extra-time.

But Welland’s strong defence and confident goalkeeping from Finn Westmacott kept them at bay.

Welland will play Worcester Colts in the final on April 19.

Meanwhile, Welland’s girls and women are now back in action and welcome new members of all ages.

The under nines, 11s and 13s train on Thursdays from 6pm until 7pm indoors at Hanley Castle sports hall with qualified level two coaches.
