WELLAND kept up their Cheltenham Association League Division Three title tilt with a 4-0 win at third-placed Brockworth Albion Reserves.

The leaders just about survived a strong start from their physical hosts as keeper Niall Hacking pulled off two eye-catching saves.

Against the run of play, Welland’s Jon Williams found Paul Edwards, who drove an unstoppable 25-yard shot past the keeper.

The goal sparked Welland into life and their lead was almost doubled just before half-time when Omar Elmougy and Stu Wilkes went close.

The second-half saw Welland dominate the game, showing good character and discipline. Elmougy was fouled in the box on 51 minutes and Wilkes increased their lead from the penalty spot.

It was one-way traffic and the introduction of Stacey Brimmell and Jamie Harding out wide provided a constant threat with their blistering pace.

James Lush made it 3-0 on 72 minutes when he was played in by Brimmell, and he finished superbly by lofting the ball over the keeper.

Harding had two efforts harshly disallowed after being adjudged offside, before Lush completed the scoring on 88 minutes.

He ran on to Elmougy’s pass and poked the ball past the keeper for a hard-fought but convincing victory.
