THE future of Ledbury Town remains unclear as the football club’s two teams continue to be locked out of New Street.

The ground, which has been Ledbury’s home for 81 years, is currently shut, meaning the reserves and colts have had to find alternative facilities to play on.

It was initially believed landowners Property Solutions (Ledbury) Ltd had agreed for the remaining teams to complete the season using the New Street pitch and changing rooms after the 122-year-old club folded due to rising costs.

But the ground has since been locked, leaving The Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League sides in limbo.

A meeting was due to be held this week between the company and the teams’ committee to try and find a solution.

“We are locked out of the ground due to the wording of the tenancy agreement and the developers are not prepared to alter it,” said Paul Mann, who is the chairman of Town’s new committee.

“But we are still negotiating with them and all is not lost short term. It’s more of a long-term problem.”

The reserves are third in Division One, while the Colts are second in Division Three.

Both Ledbury Swifts, who play in Ross Road, and the cricket club, based at the back of the Full Pitcher pub in New Street, have offered their facilities.

The reserves were due to contest their Ross Cup semi-final with Fownhope Reserves last Saturday but wet weather made the pitch unplayable.

They are due to visit Holme Lacy in the Herefordshire FA Burghill Cup semi-finals tomorrow (2pm).

Bromyard await the winners after beating Tenbury Town 3-1 in their last-four clash.

The colts visit Orleton Colts Reserves in Division Three tomorrow (2.30pm).
