MANAGER Les Jones says Malvern Town’s Worcestershire FA Senior Urn triumph is proof the club is making progress.

Town defeated Highgate United 3-0 at Evesham United’s Jubilee Stadium with two goals from Lee Hooper and one from Matt Turner.

It was their first piece of silverware for a decade and comes with them also sitting sixth in the West Midlands League Premier Division, ahead of tomorrow’s home match against fourth-placed Shawbury United.

Jones said: “It’s a tremendous boost. It’s confirmation that we are doing the right things in trying to take the club forward. It was a great result, we played really well and deserved it.”

Following a goalless first-half against Highgate, Malvern broke the deadlock two minutes into the second-half. Conor McCarthy kept out Ben Hayes’ firmly struck low drive, but Hooper was the first to react to force the ball over the line.

They increased their lead in the 61st minute, when Aaron Richards’ free-kick deceived the Highgate defence to leave Hooper with a simple five-yard finish.

Things got even better for Malvern 15 minutes from time when Turner’s cross flew in off the inside of a post.
