LEDBURY Town Reserves completed a stellar week with two more trophies.

They secured the Herefordshire Football League Division One title with a 4-0 win over Fownhope Reserves.

Town then bagged the Herefordshire FA Burghill Cup with a 5-0 thrashing of local rivals Bromyard in the midweek final at Westfields in Hereford.

Phil Preedy and Roly Welch’s squad, the top team at New Street after the firsts disbanded earlier in the season, had already lifted the Ross Cup and Herefordshire FA Junior Cup this month.

Dan Herbert opened the scoring on 23 minutes against Bromyard and Patrick Morgan added a second before half-time.

Herbert nodded in a Martin Loveridge corner early in the second period before Jamie Welch scored twice in the last 10 minutes with a classy finish and a header.

Ledbury finish their Division One season at Fownhope Reserves tomorrow (2.30pm) after winning the title with a 4-0 home triumph over the same club.

They are three points ahead of second-placed Bromyard, who have completed their league fixtures.

More than 170 supporters watched the decisive victory, including several members of the Ledbury Swifts youth teams, who acted as mascots and took part in an exhibition penalty shoot-out.

A club spokesman said: “Coupled with the league win, the excellent show of local support was exactly what was needed at the end of a very difficult and well-publicised few months for Ledbury Town Football Club.

“Negotiations between the new committee and the club’s landowners, in an attempt to secure a permanent home ground for football in the town after the club was forced to fold at the start of the year due to heavy debts, look set to continue into next season.”

Ledbury largely dominated against Fownhope as captain Welch bagged a hat-trick and prolific marksman Herbert also found the target late on.

An early shot from Welch was saved by the keeper before the striker walked in the opener from a Loveridge corner.

He was denied by a fine save but extended the lead early in the second period.

Joint manager Preedy made a rare appearance as a substitute, while 18-year-old keeper Elliot Watts ensured a clean sheet by pushing away a free-kick.

After Herbert dispatched a volley over the Fownhope keeper, Welch completed his treble minutes from the end to put the icing on the cake.
