FORMER Hereford United duo Joel Edwards and Ben Miller have returned to Edgar Street to join Peter Beadle’s Hereford.

Edwards, who was previously at Hereford-based Westfields, had two stints as a professional at United, while Miller was in the youth set-up when Beadle was in charge.

The pair join ex-United skipper Tony James, goalkeeper Harvey Rivers, former youth captain Dylan Bonella and ex-youth player Max Kontic-Coveney in the squad.

Hereford United were wound-up due to unpaid debts in December and are in liquidation.

Hereford FC, a new phoenix club, will start life next season in the Midland League Premier Division.

Beadle said: “Joel has Conference experience and is a tough tackling, versatile defender, who can play at centre-half or left-back.

“I was a big admirer of Joel when he was at Edgar Street previously and felt he should have played a lot more than he did.

"Ben was part of my successful youth team and went on to complete the second year of his scholarship at West Bromwich Albion.

"Having been released, he looks likely to go to Hartpury College next year.

"Ben can play up top or on the left and has a sweet left foot.

“He’s a positive, attacking player and will prove an exciting addition to the squad.”

Beadle is talking to a host of players as he assembles his squad from scratch for the new campaign.

“I’m talking to quite a number of players, while there are plenty who have been in touch who I will be speaking to soon,” said Beadle.

“I’ll use the early training sessions and pre-season games to look at some of the highly recommended players I’ve not seen a huge amount of.

“I feel it is right to be patient as there are a lot of players available and quite a number who are considering options before they will commit to making final decisions.”

Meanwhile, Jewson are the new main shirt sponsor of Hereford.

The deal is initially for one season, with Jewson having an option to extend the deal as the club’s first league campaign progresses.

Hereford chairman Jon Hale said: “We are absolutely delighted to have signed this sponsorship deal with Jewson – a national brand with a strong local presence.

"To have a company with a profile like Jewson so keen to become our main shirt sponsor for 2015/16 is a huge compliment to the esteem in which the name Hereford is held in football."

Kevin Gwillim, branch manager at Jewson in Hereford, said: “We are always looking for ways to support the communities in which we work, and as such are delighted to be supporting the rebirth of the football club.”

Hereford are aiming to launch the new home playing kit next week.

Replica shirts should then be available for supporters to buy within a couple of weeks.
