THE McDonald’s Worcester and District Football League annual general meeting takes place tonight at Claines Royal British Legion (7.30pm).

The Tom Kerrod Cup will be presented to the winner of the club linesman of the year competition.

The top goal-scorers in each of the six divisions will also be honoured with a new golden boot award.

League secretary Tim Phillips will reflect on one of the most competitive seasons in the Premier Division.

“No less than five clubs were in contention for the title approaching the last month of the season,” said Phillips.

“In a dramatic final weekend’s fixtures, Perrywood clinched the championship with literally the last kick of the season.”

Perrywood’s first team and reserves won five cup competitions between them — the Katherine Rayer Cup and Southam Trophy, the Worcester Nursing Junior and Minor Cups and the Worcestershire FA Sunday Junior Cup.

Phillips thanked Trevor Smith at main sponsors McDonald’s for contributing £1,500 last season.

He paid tribute to Herbie Plant, who pledged £1,000, and the other sponsors that helped the league to keep fees unchanged for the sixth year in succession.

Phillips added: “Clubs were asked to upload their match report forms to the league website each week and this has been a resounding success.”

All member clubs not represented at tonight’s meeting will face a £25 fine.
