MALVERN Town’s pre-season friendly cash windfall from a record gate will give the club a major boost for the campaign ahead, according to managing director Chris Pinder.

The HDanywhere Community Stadium visit of newly-formed Hereford FC attracted a bumper crowd of 2,006 with the city side beating the West Midlands League Premier Division hosts 3-2.

Although Pinder would not put a figure on the financial lift, he said: “Some of the large overheads at the club won’t be such a worry. For example, the electricity bills are £1,000 a month. This will give us some security ahead.

“We’ll also continue improving the facilities for the players and community and enhancing the floodlights too. A lot of the money from the game has already been allocated and will all be invested into the club.

“It was a fantastic night against Hereford and we’re still on a high. We had our usual hardcore of Malvern support but there were some new faces and hopefully they’ll watch us again.

“If we can increase our support, it will not only be good for the club from a financial perspective but also boost the players to play in front of bigger crowds.

“We hope to make the Hereford match an annual event. Both sets of supporters behaved impeccably and there was no trouble.”

Town host Southern League side Bishop’s Cleeve in their next friendly on Tuesday (7.45pm) and Westfields next Friday (7.30pm).
