MALVERN Town went down 2-0 to higher-ranked Westfields in a pre-season friendly at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

The Hereford visitors opened pre-season with a 5-1 win at Broadwell and produced another confident passing display with goals from Craig Jones and centre-half James Febery.

In a lively start, young Fields forward Tom Bendall broke free of the defence before seeing his speculative effort pushed against the bar.

Jones hit a weak shot at the keeper but then put the visitors ahead after running into the Malvern half and hitting a low drive into the bottom corner.

Midfielder Anthony Robbins fired wide, while Town failed to create any real chances during the first-half although a cross-shot rattled the bar.

The hosts began to threaten more in the second period with Luke Griffiths clearing off the line after keeper Andrew Delve flapped at a cross.

Bendall sent a half-volley just wide at the other end but Delve's outstretched leg prevented Malvern's best chance of the game from finding the net.

But it was too little too late for Town and Jones commanded the middle of the pitch while seeing a shot tipped over.

Fields killed the game off when a diagonal ball into the box from Tom Boyle was comfortably chested down by Febery before he struck the ball low past the keeper.

Malvern visit Littleton tomorrow night (7.45pm), host Kent-based Greenways on Saturday (3pm) and head to Pershore Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
