MALVERN Town opened their West Midlands League Premier Division points account for the season in style with a 6-0 thrashing of relegated Tipton Town.

The HDanywhere Community Stadium side had previously lost 3-0 at home to Haughmond and 3-1 at Smethwick Rangers.

But four goals for Lee Hooper alongside strikes by Matt Turner and substitute Sam Rathbone saw off 10-man Tipton.

Malvern took an early lead when a Jack Cullity corner was side-footed into the net by Hooper.

Three minutes later, a cross was played in from the right and Lewis Platt could not quite reach the ball despite a fine diagonal run.

In the 15th minute, Turner laid the ball off to David Reynolds, who shot over from 35 yards. The pressure continued as Anthony Smith crossed for Hooper but his header was saved on the line.

Soon after, Reynolds’ curling shot went just wide.

Malvern only went into half-time with a one-goal lead after Turner’s first-time effort from a Reynolds cross before the break was marginally off target.

Platt fired wide before Malvern finally made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

A Cullity corner found Hooper, who hit the post, but the ball was crossed back into the box for the same player to head home.

Five minutes later, the ball was played up the centre of the pitch and Turner stroked home.

Turner had another shot deflected just wide and Cullity headed the wrong side of the post.

In the 67th minute, Turner was brought down in the box and the defender was sent off for a second yellow card.

Hooper converted the penalty in the 73rd minute to secure his hat-trick.

Two minutes later, it was 5-0 when another Cullity corner was headed home by Hooper for his fourth goal.

Platt hit the bar and Louis Loader shot over for rampant Malvern.

In the 80th minute, Rathbone was one-on-one with keeper Matthew Martin and rounded him but his shot hit the bar from an acute angle.

But three minutes later another ball was played through to Rathbone and he headed in the sixth goal.

Loader’s late effort was cleared off the line after Hooper nodded down Platt’s cross.
