PERSHORE Town exited the Midland League’s Polymac Packaging Cup when they lost 1-0 to Hereford in front of a bumper crowd of 567 at the 2020SolarPV Stadium.

The only goal was scored after 14 minutes when Nathan Hughes finished from close range but this was after the visitors had an earlier scare when Pershore’s Steve Roche grazed the bar with his shot.

A competitive first-half saw Hereford have more possession but Town’s defence was well marshalled and held firm.

The second-half, however, saw Hereford’s superior fitness tell and they would have increased their lead had it not been for two excellent saves from Town’s goalkeeper Andy Yarnold.

While Pershore have gone out of the competition in the first round, it was a fantastic evening for the club, playing in an enclosed stadium where all sides were blacked out, adding to the atmosphere under the floodlights and in front of the largest crowd at the stadium for many years.

The next big event for Pershore is the club’s visit to Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, October 10, to receive national coverage as one of the few featured matches on National Non-League Day.

Town visit Pilkington XXX in the MFL this Saturday.
