AT the halfway stage of the McDonald’s Worcester and District Football League season, four teams appear to be in contention for the Sunday Premier Division crown.

Arrow Upton 2000 currently lead the table and will be looking to their strike partnership of Dan Colburn and Luke Corbett to keep them in the title hunt.

Callow End sit second, just three points behind with two games in hand but, although they have one of the meanest defences in the division, a lack of firepower may be their undoing.

In third position at the moment are a star-studded Hallow side and if their front three of Brad Birch, Kyonn Evans and new signing Wes Joyce all click together, they will take some stopping.

Hallow also have designs on the Worcestershire FA Sunday Premier Cup and travel to Stourport Swifts in the semi-finals at the end of January.

Finally, reigning champions Perrywood cannot be ruled out, although a potential fixture pile-up at the end of the season may dampen their challenge.

At the other end of the table, Droitwich Spa Eagles, Brewers Athletic and New Barbourne are all scrambling for points to keep out of the relegation area.

Malvern side Falcons look a good bet to claim one of the promotion places from Division One.

They currently lead the table by seven points and have a lethal strike partnership in Matt Turner and Brad Morton, who have claimed nearly half of the team’s 52-goal tally between them.

However, both Claines and Worcester Saints have several games in hand and are sure to be in the mix at the end of the season.

Saints boast the best defence in the whole league, having only conceded three goals to date.

The University of Worcester A and The Bell @ Pensax currently occupy the bottom two places.

In Division Two, Colwall Village and Drakes Broughton Rangers have identical playing records at the top of the table, with the Malvern Hills side only ahead on goal difference.

The relegation places would appear to be between Hylton Road Rovers, VBL Sports and Colwall St James.

AFC Brickfields have a healthy lead at the top of Division Three, with Perrywood Youth and Upton Rangers also in contention.

The situation at the bottom is far less clear-cut, with several teams needing points to get themselves up the table.

Fernhill Heath Athletic would appear to be the most nailed-on team to take a crown, having a 100 per cent record in Division Four.

They also have the joint leading goal-scorer in Mike Cox, along with Louis Baker of Worcester Raiders Reserves, who currently lie second in the table.

It’s a three-way battle for honours in Division Five, with Warndon Villages and CSKA Worcester having identical records at the top. Warndon lead by virtue of a one-goal difference.

However, they will both be looking over their shoulders at Pershore Town Eagles, who boast the only other unblemished record in the league and will go top if they win their two games in hand.
