TOP scorer Dave Reynolds bagged a brace as Malvern Town won 4-2 at Shifnal Town in the West Midlands Football League Premier Division.

The prolific Reynolds was joined on the scoresheet by a Louis Loader piledriver and a powerful header from Matt Pinder.

Malvern moved above Wolverhampton Casuals to third in the table ahead of Saturday's big home game with champions Haughmond at the HDanywhere Community Stadium (3pm).

Runaway leaders Haughmond are 17 points ahead of second-placed Wolverhampton Sporting Community with five games left.

After going to Shropshire for the rearranged midweek game Malvern went ahead in just the fourth minute.

The ball was played through to Reynolds on the right and he moved it from his right to his left foot before firing home.

It was 2-0 after 12 minutes when the ball was played to Loader who shot on the angle from about 30 yards into the far corner.

Four minutes later Malvern did good work down the left and Lewis Platt fired a shot which keeper Tom Whittaker parried and Reynolds' follow-up effort was saved.

In the 20th minute Shifnal's Seth Ellis turned Harry Wickett but shot wide.

Four minutes later the hosts pulled a goal back.

A mix-up between the central defenders allowed Nathan Jackson to muscle his way through and score.

In the 35th minute the ball was played downfield with Reynolds and Whittaker jumping for the ball.

Reynolds' determination won possession and he rounded the keeper to fire home.

Eight minutes into the second half Platt crossed superbly for Pinder to power home Malvern's fourth goal with his head.

But in the 61st minute another defensive mistake let Jackson in to net Shifnal’s second.

In the 75th minute a Shifnal free-kick was heading towards the top corner but Charlie Weaver pulled off a wonderful save to prevent a third goal.

Six minute later Matt Turner and Adam Sauntson worked the ball to Platt whose powerful shot was saved by Whittaker.

In the 88th minute Whittaker was kept busy with another save from Platt.

In injury-time Chris Parker fired wide as Malvern finished the game on the attack ahead of Saturday's date with the champions.

The reserves lost 2-1 at lowly Azaad Sports in Division Two last weekend.
