LEADERS Malvern Town produced their “best performance of the season” to clinch a 2-1 win over Wellington in West Midlands League Premier Division.

Town were trailing 1-0 at the break after Paul Jones pounced on a defensive mistake to give the visitors an early lead.

But Malvern responded in the second half with goals from Adam Sauntson and Josh Weatherby who bagged the winner with seven minutes to go.

“The boys were tremendous,” Jones said.

“It was certainly our best performance of the season so far as Wellington are going to be one of the contenders for the title.

“We were creative going forward and determined and resilient in midfield and defence.

“Their goal came from an individual mistake, but we managed to come out in the second half and re-established our dominance in the game.

“We finally got the equaliser and then had enough within us to go on and get the winner, so I was delighted.”

The result stretches Town’s record to five wins from five in the league and moves them three points clear at the top.

Malvern host ninth-placed AFC Bridgnorth tomorrow (3pm). They will be boosted by the return of Matt Turner, but Bryan Craven and Jamie Smith are both unavailable.
