MALVERN Town will be looking to crank up the heat on the West Midlands League Premier Division frontrunners when they host bottom club Wellington Amateurs tomorrow (3pm).

Fourth-placed Town moved within one point of Wolverhampton Sporting Community after beating the leaders 2-1 at the HDanywhere Community Stadium last Saturday.

But manager Les Jones insisted his players must treat their clash against struggling Wellington with as much importance as Malvern bid to extend their unbeaten run in the league to eight games.

“It was a fantastic result and a tremendous boost for the lads,” Jones said.

“But we have to make sure we produce a positive result tomorrow to build on pulling those three points back on Wolverhampton Sporting.

“If we hadn’t won last Saturday Sporting could be seven points ahead of us with two games in hand whereas now there is only one point in it and they have got to play us again.

“So it is important we win our other games to keep the pressure on them.

“We have got a game against one of the bottom sides.

“In the last three weeks they have had a new manager and eight new players and have improved quite dramatically.

“We have got to go in with the same intensity and desire as we did last Saturday to come out on top.”

Matt Turner added to his tally with a brace in the victory over Wolverhampton Sporting Community but Jones was keen to highlight his side’s defensive resolve.

“Our upturn in form has really been because we have defended far better,” Jones said.

“The coach Dene Whittal-Williams has been working really hard with the lads in training and it has produced results as we are defending as a team now.”

Malvern look set to be without Shaun Smith who is struggling with an ankle injury, but Kirk Layton is expected to return after recovering from an illness.

Jones also confirmed the departure of forward Luke Molloy who has made 14 appearances for Town this season.

“Luke won’t be available to us tomorrow as he is moving on,” Jones added.

“He has done really well for us, but hasn’t had a regular place in the side for about a month. We wanted to keep him, but he wants more regular first-team football.”
