Powick on form for a home win

Powick 5, Nunnery Wood 1.

POWICK turned on the style as they got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they beat struggling Nunnery Wood in the Worcester and District League Saturday Division One.

Despite not being at their clinical best, the home side managed to lead 3-0 at the break through goals from Chris Grubb, Dan Hunt and Stu Harvey.

Grubb opened the scoring after a slick move got Andy Martin in behind down the left-hand side.

Lee Barmby exchanged passes with Hunt before rolling in Martin who fizzed the ball across the face of goal for Grubb to slot into the empty net.

Hunt, himself, then made it two after following up Martin’s shot.

The goalkeeper saved well but the ball fell kindly to Hunt who doubled his side’s score for his second in as many games.

Grubb then turned provider after crossing from the right into the path of Harvey.

The latters’ right-footed volley rebounded off the keeper but the striker made no mistake at the second attempt as he netted from six yards.

After the break, substitute Ricky Buckland made the game safe for Powick, but not before Nunnery Wood threatened to get back into the contest.

Powick’s goalkeeper Dan Geisler who was not involved in the action for large parts of the game, dropped a cross right in front of one of the Nunnery Wood strikers, who passed the ball into the empty net.

But almost instantly, Powick stepped up a gear and Buckland was able to make it four with a straight forward tap-in. He found himself in the right place as James Ireson’s fierce drive was saved well.

Powick’s Martin then got himself on the scoresheet to complete the rout after a through ball from Barmby.
