Premier target set by Town chairman
2:00pm Saturday 14th July 2012 in Football
CHAIRMAN Andy Kibble wants Ledbury Town to return to the West Midlands League Premier Division in three years.
The New Street side dropped out of the set-up two years ago and switched to the Herefordshire League Premier Division.
But, after winning the title in May, they have rejoined the regional competition and are gearing up for the 2012-13 campaign in Division Two.
Ledbury kick-off with three home games in a row, starting with Gornal Athletic Reserves on Saturday, August 4, followed by Hereford Lads Club and Bartestree, who have also joined from the Herefordshire League.
Kibble said: “My main aim when I took over the club two years ago was to put Ledbury back in the West Midlands League.
“It’s been a hard road to build ourselves up because it’s not easy.
“Now it’s time that we let the people know we are ready to compete at a much higher level.
“We are quite capable of going back in the Premier Division although we need to work our way up.”
Ledbury’s pre-season programme starts tomorrow when they make the short trip to Newent Town (noon) followed by a home match against Haygrove on Friday, July 20 (7.30pm).
A trip to Malvern Town follows 24 hours later (3pm) before a visit to Mercia Athletic on Wednesday, July 25 (7pm) and the return game against Newent at New Street on Saturday, July 28 (12pm).
Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at John Masefield High School at 7pm and any players interested can call the club on 01531-631463.
