THE first week of matches in Paperstation Malvern League Division One saw YMCA Pterodactyls establish their title credentials.

They beat Manor Park Pumas 9-1 with maximums from new recruit Svilen Andreev, reigning Malvern singles champion Wayne Chopping and Dave White.

Pumas’ sole success was a five-set doubles victory for Jon Dyke and Geoff Woodward against Chopping and White.

CSSC Ramblers began with a 7-3 beating of Ledbury Rovers with wins for Chris Hewitt (3), Graham Thompson (2) and Alan Salisbury.

Ady Marshall replied with two successes for Rovers and Jack Castle added one.

Ledbury Collection beat promoted Manor Park Travellers 6-4 with two triumphs each for Nigel Foreshew and Patyrk Kovacz supported by Ann Barnes’ one.

Travellers replied with three wins for Craig Preece and one for Toby Wren.

Foreshew and Kovacz saw off Wren and Preece in the decisive doubles.

Manor Park Express defeated Ledbury Lions 7-3 thanks to Pete Griffiths (3), Dale Dickinson (2) and Ray Page.

Dickinson and Griffiths combined to take the doubles against Richard Smith and Steve Meredith, who won two and one respectively in reply.

In Division Two, relegated Crackpots ‘E’ defeated Nomads 8-2 thanks to a superb display by Matt Hodges.

His three victories were supported by newcomer Anthea Knight and Dave Steen with two each.

Dave Hayes replied with two successes for Nomads.

Scuttling Gang started with a 7-3 win over Manor Park Wanderers thanks to Richard McKenna (3), Ray Davies (2) and Richard Cullis (2).

Stan Mason and Charlie Burford replied with triumphs for Wanderers.

Dynamos defeated Upton 9-1 with maximums from Geoff Burford and John Phillips, backed by Tom James (2), while Mark Davies replied with a single for Upton.

YMCA Vulcans beat promoted Tornados 7-3 with Richard Bennett taking three singles alongside Simon Harrison (2) and John Cawthra.

Ethan Webb, Ben Meredith and Dominic Weston replied for Tornados.

Division Three promotion favourites X Police defeated Abbeydowne 7-3 thanks to maximums from James Mulka and Steve Mulka, who also combined to take the doubles.

Niels Errikson, Len Hitchman and Chris Burrows replied with sole successes for Abbeydowne.

Manor Park Devils, who narrowly missed out on promotion last season, began well with a 7-3 victory against Manor Park Crackpots.

Despite a maximum from Crackpots’ Stephen Lindner, two wins each for Liz Hallam, Ralph Cook and Denis Chetwood secured victory.

Newly-formed Bromyard Hopefuls won their opener 7-3 against Poolbrook Rangers with trebles from Brian Kitchener and Edward Tinton, backed by David Gwilt.

Nick Haggar and Robert Weston replied with wins for Rangers.

Haggar and Russell Burford took the doubles against Gwilt and Tony Barbe.

Poolbrook Panthers overcame Poolbrook Juniors 7-3 thanks to a maximum by Ewan Gear supported by Judith Tyson (2) and Dina Murdle.

Debutant James Glazzard replied with two for Juniors and Zoe Snee one.
