MALVERN St James pupil and The Worcestershire member Lucy Walton was delighted with third place in the Faldo Series grand final for under 16s at The Greenbrier, West Virginia, USA.

Eighty-three golfers from 20 countries enjoyed two days of practice while spending time with a number of industry experts, including Sir Nick Faldo.

Competitors aged 12 to 21 contested the title over 54 holes on the Old White TPC course with the field divided into five age categories.

Walton said: “I had the most amazing week at The Greenbrier.

“I learnt so much from Sir Nick Faldo, Fanny Sunesson (caddy) and Keith Wood (coach).

“I’m really pleased with the way that I played over the three days of competition.

“The course was very difficult with so many water hazards and, with the weather mainly chilly, it played very long.

“It was great to share the week with so many international top-class players. They helped me to keep calm and enjoy the experience.

“I would love to qualify for the finals again next year.

“I’d like to thank my club and county for all their support this year and my school for allowing me time off to train and compete.”
