MALVERN College pupil Holly Needham won at the National Schools Equestrian Association Novice Dressage Championship.

The 14-year-old impressed at Addington Manor, Buckinghamshire, on her horse Cruz V.

Qualifiers took place regionally throughout the year and successful combinations qualified for the championship.

Needham made progress on her horse at Kings Equestrian, Bromyard.

She then won the KBIS Novice Dressage Championship at the national finals with a high score of 75 per cent.

The teenager was rewarded with a jacket and a rug for her horse.

Needham won and was placed at the British Eventing Pony Trials during a fine season. She also represented the England north-west under 25s dressage team at the Home International in Chepstow.

Needham aims to consolidate on her pony trials results next year and gain a place in the Great Britain pony eventing squad.

The Malvern College boarder trains on a weekly basis with Islay Auty at Hillview Equestrian Centre, Malvern.
