TERRY Jenkins’ hopes in the Singha Beer Grand Slam of Darts have been shattered by his nemesis, Michael van Gerwen.

The Ledbury thrower crashed 10-4 against the reigning Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Champion in the second round on Wednesday night.

Jenkins was beaten 11-4 by in-form Dutchman van Gerwen in last month's European Championship final in Germany.

Jenkins had been gunning for revenge against van Gerwen this week but missed crucial doubles at Wolverhampton Civic Hall as he slipped to defeat.

The Bull, who is still to win a major televised tournament, trailed 4-1 early on against van Gerwen before firing in a 116 checkout to level the game.

However, van Gerwen took the next six legs without reply to seal the win, including checkouts of 114, 90, 74 and 65, as he moved through to the last eight.

Van Gerwen opened the game with a 177 and finished tops to take the first leg after Jenkins missed the bull for a 170-finish Four misses from Jenkins were punished in the second leg by the Dutchman before The Bull got off the mark with an 84 finish.

Jenkins slipped to 4-1 before rallying to win the next three legs, including a finish of 116, to level the match at 4-4.

The Dutchman regained control and Jenkins’ misery was finally completed in the 14th leg when he missed tops to keep the game alive.

Van Gerwen finished with 65 to complete victory and move into the quarter-finals.
