NEWENT dressage star Charlotte Dujardin joins new Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton among the nominees for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy, Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale and boxer Carl Froch are also in the ten 10-strong list for the annual prize.

Dujardin, 29, named the Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Year last week, won two individual gold medals and shared in a team silver at the World Equestrian Games in the summer.

Hamilton secured his second F1 world title last weekend with victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The ten 10 contenders face the public vote on the night of the live show on December 14 at the SSE Hydro Arena, Glasgow.

Scottish tennis ace Andy Murray took the 2013 title in Leeds.

After her double Olympic gold in London in 2012, Dujardin continued to conquer all before her on the circuit.

She scooped two gold medals and a bronze at last year’s European Dressage Championships in Herning, Denmark.

Dujardin said: “I have an incredible relationship with my horse Valegro.

“I have been working with him for eight years now.

“We know each other inside out. He’s like my dance partner out there.

“In fact, he should be up on the stage receiving the award too.

“People like Carl Hester and many, many others have helped me to get to where I am today.”
