THE David Dennis-trained Steel Summit secured two wins in three days over the jumps.

Jockey Aidan Coleman led the six-year-old gelding to success at Taunton and Doncaster.

Steel Summit, trained by Dennis in Hanley Swan, followed up his Boxing Day victory at Huntingdon in style.

He was a 5-2 favourite for the Somerset County Gazette Handicap Hurdle at Taunton and duly obliged with an eight-length win.

Then, in the Betdaq No Premium Charge Handicap Hurdle at Doncaster, Steel Summit (5-4 favourite) destroyed the opposition by 18 lengths despite holding top weight.

Dennis reflected on a successful season of 19 wins.

The yard more than doubled last term’s seven victories and celebrated a first double with Cyclop and Steel Summit at Huntingdon.

Other success included Un Anjou at Musselburgh and Taunton, Roman Flight at Cheltenham, Ballybough Andy at Huntingdon and Key To The West at Uttoxeter. Marju’s Quest was also a top contender with three wins.

Dennis said: “Owners Superdream Racing and Favourites Racing have been very pleased with the wins.

“We are lucky to have the support from all of our owners, including the Lucky Seven syndicate and Professor Lorna Hardwick, as well as Rose Farm Developments, who have recently purchased a share of Steel Summit.

“The Craigsteel gelding is a very good jumper and, being only a six-year-old, we hope he can continue to give his new owners plenty of fun.

“Cyclop, a previous winner in France before joining us earlier this year, is part-owned by racing enthusiast Professor Hardwick and has been consistent in his runs in the United Kingdom, showing constant improvement.

“He’s a hardy little horse who stays very well and jumps brilliantly and, only being a four-year-old, is continuing to strengthen all the time.

“Cyclop will be an interesting prospect in novice chases in the future. As a four-year-old chaser, he would receive a big weight allowance where we are confident he would excel.

“We were thrilled to achieve our first double before the end of the year and hope that 2015 can provide us with plenty more successes.”
