COLWALL and Malvern could not complete the double over Bourton and Sherborne in successive games.

They had defeated the Cotswold side 2-1 at home in West Clubs Women’s League Severn Division One the previous weekend.

But Colwall and Malvern were unable to follow up the victory over the higher-placed side and went down 2-0 in their rearranged trip to the picturesque village.

The visitors took a while to get their passing game going and found it difficult to break down Bourton and Sherborne’s defence, who did everything they could to break up play.

Colwall and Malvern forced several short corners but again the hosts stopped the ball crossing the goal line any way they could.

Bourton and Sherborne then managed to counter-attack, catching the visitors’ defence on the back foot and somehow managed to force the ball home.

The second period was similar to the first and, no matter how hard Colwall and Malvern’s players tried, they could not find a way through a strong defence.

Bourton and Sherborne struck midway through the second-half with only their second shot at goal – a hopeful reverse-stick effort which deflected up and off an attacker’s stick into the net.

It was a hard-fought game and sixth-placed Colwall and Malvern were unlucky not to come away with anything.

They visit Lansdown seconds tomorrow, at 2pm, and their seconds have a training game at Malvern College –10am start for anyone who would like a run-out.
