BRANSFORD’S Captain’s Cup competition was appropriately won by this year’s man in charge Eliot Payne.

Club captain Payne had the day’s best gross score of 83 to win with 68 nett off a handicap of 15.

Anne Hamilton was runner-up on 93 gross 22 handicap 71 nett followed by Andy Kennedy (83-10=73), Bill Bowen (94-20=74) and Andy Harris (91-17=74).

Mike Madden (81-12=69) led the way in Division One of a tight June medal to finish just two ahead of Stuart Crump (82-11=71) with Sam Jones (77-5=72) a further shot behind.

But it was much easier in Division Two for Dave Lewis (89-20=69), who was eight shots ahead of his nearest challenger Les Clarke (97-20=77) with Denis Atkins (97-17=80) third.

One of the year’s major charity fundraisers at Bransford, the annual Breast Cancer Day, drew in a healthy entry of 18 three-ball teams to help raise £560.

The cash, bulked up by an anonymous donation of more than £100, will go to the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, which will eventually provide a new facility at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The competition, played as a stableford format with one, two and then all three scores to count on consecutive holes, was won by the trio of husband-and-wife Andy and Lesley Lammas alongside Steve Bourne with 91 points.

They were seven ahead of two teams on 84 with Roy Williams, John Phillips and Alan Wallcroft snatching the runners-up spot on count-back from Brian Lawrence, Pat Farr and Neil Sheldon.

Other leading scores were Dave Gordon, Tim Williams and Ollie Walker on 76 along with Andy Goodhall, Lyndon Gardener and Jason Keane, while the teams of Robin Walker, Bowen and Martin Saunders and Sally and Alan McPherson and Dave Randle both posted 75.

Bransford seniors continued to show outstanding form in their summer match schedule with wins eight and nine from 11 matches to date.

New opposition in the form of The Abbey from Redditch made their first visit to the club and were trounced 6-1.

Bransford then visited Cleobury Mortimer and managed to edge out the hosts 3½-2½.
