MALVERN United members will join thousands of other anglers as the magical date of Tuesday, June 16, heralds the start of the coarse fishing season on rivers.
The club have been busy preparing the fishing platforms and steps on their stretches of the River Severn at Holdfast and the River Avon at Cropthorne, where catches improved dramatically last season.
Match secretary Richard Webster reported at the recent annual meeting that some remarkable fish were caught.
They included a 28lb carp, 13lb barbel and a 6lb chub to Harvey Thompson at Cropthorne, while Holdfast produced bream of 8lb and barbel to 11lb to Chris Loveridge and a superb match-winning weight of over 19lb of skimmer bream to Dennis Flanagan.
