MALVERN’S Vicky Jenkins is in a 17-strong Great Britain squad for the World Archery Para Championships next month in Germany.

The biennial tournament, which runs from August 23 until 30 in Donaueschingen, is a key tournament for winning places in the run-up to the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Two years ago, GB dominated the championships with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Bromyard Bowmen member Jenkins, 37, will represent the nation in the women’s W1 class, for competitors with a disability affecting four limbs, along with Jo Frith and teenager Jessica Stretton.

Meanwhile, Malvern Archers hold their annual outdoor tournament at Malvern College sports ground on Sunday, which incorporates the Worcestershire Novice Championship.

Around 100 from across the region will compete in different categories throughout the afternoon from 2pm.

Malvern enjoyed a fantastic indoor season over the winter, taking the county league for the first time and many individual and team trophies, including the West Midlands and county team championship.

The club also had victories in friendly matches against Redhill and Redditch.

Tournaments officer Paul Willetts reports club membership continues to grow.

Members range from eight to 80 years old. Some enjoy a leisurely shoot with friends, some participate in local competitions and some shoot for the county and West Midlands teams.
