MALVERN'S Evie Richards finished 10th in the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire for Team Great Britain.

Kirsten Wild (Hitec Products) won the big prize money race after world champion Lizzie Armistead was caught in the final kilometres.

Wild beat Lucy Garner by less than a bike length with Redditch rider Bethany Crumpton (Team Boot Out Breast Cancer) a solid 33rd in Doncaster.

The 136-kilometre route went from Otley in West Yorkshire to the South Yorkshire town.

Five British riders were in the top 10 and Richards was only metres behind the winner.

It was the 19-year-old's first ride on open roads in the UK and she helped GB collect the team prize.

This year, Richards won the inaugural world under 23 cyclo-cross title in Belgium and then took round two of the British elite mountain bike race in Plymouth.

She said: "I really enjoyed the experience in Yorkshire. The crowds were amazing.

"Most of my road riding has been with my club, so having the opportunity to ride with the world's best was very exciting."

Richards, who competed last year for T-Mo Racing, was asked by ex-British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton to enter some key road races.

She added: "I don’t have a great deal of experience on the road. Most of my experience has been on the roads around Hereford and Worcester and a week in Majorca with GB."

When back in Malvern, she trains alongside club friends and Malvern-based coach, Olympian Liam Killeen, and world champion Tracey Moseley. This weekend, she is on her mountain bike for GB in the European Championships in Sweden.
