THE Worcestershire member and Malvern St James pupil Lucy Walton is enjoying another superb season.

The popular county player set a new ladies’ club record when, a week before her 17th birthday, she carded an eagle and four birdies in the June medal to record a gross score of 70 against a par of 72.

Despite fast greens and testing pin positions, Walton took the Malvern Wells course by storm, recording a three on the par-five 16th hole and birdies on the first, fourth, 15th and 18th holes.

The two-handicapper’s success continued when, having qualified at the Midland schools’ finals at Trentham Park, she travelled to Belton Park, Lincolnshire, for the nationals.

Walton played impressively to finish on +2 after 36 holes.

This secured fourth overall and an invitation to represent England in the schools’ international event against Scotland in September for the second consecutive year.

Walton also plays hockey for the England National Age Group (NAGS) and is joint head girl at the Malvern school.

Meanwhile, Cleobury Mortimer prospect Emily Price, 16, has flown out to represent England at the European Girls’ Team Championship in Oslo, Norway, for her first cap at the level.
