EARLY starter Mark Cox won Bransford’s captain’s charity competition with 43 stableford points off his handicap of 16.

Three players chasing could only post 41 apiece as Neil Pask (15 handicap), Kyle Moss (26) and Lee Tally (18) finished in that order on count-back.

Dennis Atkins (17) took fifth spot with 39.

Gavin Heath (11) claimed the longest drive with nearest the pin prizes for Brian Sanders (28), Dave Lamb (7) and Craig Barry.

Just over £700 was raised on the day for Help For Heroes.

The annual Captain’s Cup, for past and present leaders of the club’s sections, saw Bransford’s first elected captain from 1995, Ken Dawe, lead the field.

The early leader in the clubhouse was Lynn Morgan (10) with 74 nett.

The outcome was close with current captain Mark Tipton (10) and partner John Phillips (22) both shooting 71.

Last year’s seniors’ captain Phillips won on count-back.

The leading three were Phillips 93 gross 22 handicap 71 nett, Tipton 81-10=71 and Wayne Harris 87-14=73.

A stableford saw Gordon Jack win the Tomkins Plumbing Trophy on count-back from Jack Cullity after both scored 39 with Stuart Crump third on 38.

There was another home win for the seniors who routed Kington 5½-½.

Rob Blake and Trevor Atkinson won one-up, Roger Clark and Ivor Lloyd 6&4, Harry Godwin and Phillips 2&1, Ian Hamilton and Roy Williams 3&2 and Ted Buckett and Dave Miller 7&6, while Mike Davidge and Dick Bettsworth halved.

Meanwhile, Evesham men competed for the Bill Onion Trophy in a medal competition.

Five-handicapper Steven Protherough capped a successful season with a gross one-under-par 71 and nett 66 to win.

Club secretary Fraser Williamson earned a two-shot reduction in his handicap after carding 67 to come second.

Third was Robin Miles with 70.

The Vale ladies played a strokeplay competition in the Daily Mail Foursomes.

Angela Bradley and Mary Parsloe won on the back six with 103 gross 72 nett ahead of Mary Yates and Alison Wing on 93-72 and Pauline Hawkins and Trish Hulburd on 101-78.
