BRANSFORD’S ladies won their annual challenge match against the seniors in glorious weather.

The event involved eight four-ball better-ball matches with four men switching allegiance to the female ranks.

They were Brian Corfield, Roy Williams, John Phillips and Neil Sheldon and all won to secure a 4½-3½ victory.

Jodie Bennett (21 handicap) and Pat Farr (34) beat Rob Blake (15) and Robin Young (31), June Atkinson (21) and Jane Smallwood (28) beat Ian Hamilton (12) and Mike Kemp (28), Barbara Ramsden (16) and Heather Buckett (39) halved with Trevor Atkinson (14) and Dick Bettsworth (27), Anne Hamilton (22) and Trish Godwin (30) lost to Gerry Rebbeck (15) and Mike Holmes (28), Pauline Wetton (28) and Eve Lynes (31) lost to Graham Wilks (17) and Robin Walker (24), Leigh Thomas (21) and Cynthia Holmes (35) lost against Harry Godwin (18) and Rob Wetton (22), Corfield (23) and Williams (21) beat Dave Miller (19) and Andy Falconer (26), and Phillips (22) and Sheldon (21) beat Ted Buckett (18) and Alan Wallcroft (21).

Other fundraising events helped raise more than £200 for Macmillan Nurses with Anne Hamilton also donating her competition cash prize.

Bransford seniors lost 4-2 at Leominster in wet conditions.

Blake (15) and Sheldon (21) won 7&6, Wallcroft (21) and Roger Clark (22) lost 5&4, Mike Weaver (19) and Miller (19) lost one-down, Trevor Atkinson (14) and Lee Dyment (20) lost one-down, Rebbeck (15) and Paul Edlin (25) lost and Williams (21) and Dave Harvey (27) won 2&1.

The seniors completed their summer race to Bransford competition from the Friday roll-ups.

Wallcroft held on to win for the second time with a score of 43.7.

Buckett was second on 42.6 and Allan Rowberry edged out Mike Davidge on countback with both on 41.4.

Wallcroft had a final round of 37 along with Buckett and Rowberry, while Davidge had 35.

Wallcroft’s Friday haul of 6.7 proved the key to success.

The best round on the day was returned by Harry Corbett on 41 with Blake runner-up on 38 to just pip Weaver on count-back.

The main club’s October Medal was won by Steve Collins (12) with 69 nett.
