BRANSFORD seniors staged two fun competitions with adverse wintry weather affecting the course.

The conditions created problems but Trish Godwin made light of the freezing temperatures for her first hole-in-one in the annual meeting’s pairs Texas scramble with her first shot of the round.

Godwin, who plays off 30, decided to use her driver on the par-three, 144-yard 15th hole.

She said: “I struck it well and watched it all the way onto the green and into the hole.”

The first of two competitions saw players endure frost-covered fairways and greens which saw shots shooting off the surface and not always in the right direction.

Following almost incessant downpours, the conditions were demanding too for the second contest with pools of water lying on some fairways and one or two green-side bunkers full.

The first fun event was played over the back nine and produced not only the hole-in-one but also a tie for first with four pairs finishing on 32 nett.

They were Godwin and Dave Miller, Gerry Rebbeck and Ken Jones, June Atkinson and Peter Harrison and Richard Steele and Roy Williams.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Graham Wilks on the 11th, Jeff Carlisle on the 13th and Steele on the 15th.

At the meeting Alan Wallcroft was installed as the new captain of Bransford’s seniors.

Wallcroft, who also captained the section in 2012, replaced Rob Blake and said he felt “honoured and privileged” to be serving a second term of office.

Wallcroft hopes to make the 25th anniversary of the club a memorable and fun year for all.

His chosen charity will be Guide Dogs Worcestershire and he said it costs nearly £50,000 to support a guide dog from birth to retirement.

The second fun event, organised by Mike Kemp, was a stableford three-ball team competition with two scores counting on each hole.

Most teams found it difficult but there were respectable returns.

The trio of Roy Mayo (23), Ted Buckett (16) and John Phillips (20) scored 76 and won on countback from Barry Benge (19), Andrew Jarvis (23) and Mike Holmes (28).

Third were Jeff Thomas (17), Brian Corfield (24) and Harrison (24) with 74 with the latter having the top individual score of 40.

Three other teams returned 71 in Ferey Ghani (13), Andy Lamb (27) and Phil Spencer (19), Malcolm Bradley (28), Eve Lynes (30) and Brian Taylor (24) and Dave Harvey (28), Allen Rowberry (27) and Steve Littlewood (28).
