SHONA Kelly was the first Malvern Joggers' runner home at the Forest of Dean Spring Half Marathon.

Organised by The Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean and supported by the Forestry Commission, the course was the same as for the spring trails event in the past few years, utilising forest sections.

The course began and finished at Speech House near Coleford and the multi-terrain route generally used well-maintained tracks with gentle inclines.

Kelly ran one hour 43 minutes 31 seconds but said: "I had been hoping to do better than this but was full of cold.

"But I was still very happy to have made it round in 1.43 all considering and still bagged another top-50 female T-shirt!"

Joggers' Nic Dauncey clocked 1.44.11, Keith Ruff 1.47.53, John Bryan 1.50.43, Jason Protheroe 1.53.13, Andrew Brown 1.55.51, Lynda Broadway 2.06.44, Mike Anstey 2.09.48, Rhian Protheroe 2.12.35 and Steven Massey 2.24.16.

Four Joggers took on the Reading Half Marathon with Ian Walwyn running 1.46.34, Viv Tolley 2.28.44, Debbie Parker 1.54.24 and Kareen Mann 1.48.07.

Gloucester's renowned 20-mile race was ideal for those aiming for the London Marathon or other spring events.

A good, undulating run through the Gloucestershire countryside saw Megz Judge and Tony Colclough in 2.36.32 up for the challenge.

Steve Roode did the Wrekin Fell Race with 519 metres of climb and a distance of 8.8 kilometres, finishing in 58.53.

For Ledbury Harriers at the Forest of Dean event Barry Thompson was 61st in 1.28.22 closely followed by Andy Crawshaw for 106th in 1.31.50 and Steve Rooke for 120th in 1.32.49.

Phil Johnson was 457th in 1.46.16 and Helen Milner 686th in 1.51.28.

This was the first half-marathon for Richard Dobson who completed in 2.29.22.

At the Gloucester 20 Harriers' Emma Gummery finished 295th in 3.05 and Helen Keegan was 306th in 3.07.

The current couch to 5km runners are nearing the end of their course and Harriers are ready for the next one.

They will be starting the course on Tuesday, April 25, and it costs £25.
